On Page 114 Holden talks about Sally Hayes and to me this is a form of escape to the past.
The extract starts with 'What I did do, I gave old Sally Hayes a buzz.' to 'It hasn't gpt a goddam thing to do with it, but i keep thinking it anyway.'
Here I think that Holden is trying to escape to his memories from the past. He knows a lot about this girl Sally and maybe he feels as though is he gets in contact with her then it will be like being in the past again. I think that Sally reminds Holden of Jane as he has a lot of memories of her and he knows that it makes it him happy. In this extract Holden talks about 'necking on' with Sally a lot of the time and maybe this is because he has not had any female interaction in New York so maybe he is trying to escape to memories of it to make it feel more real.
